After a short pre-flight briefing, don a Biggles-style flying jacket before climbing into the cockpit of a vintage De Havilland Tiger Moth or 1930s Stampe SV4. The Tiger Moth is the quintessential English biplane, with the Stampe being the Belgian equivalent and all models have been lovingly restored. Feel the rush of the wind from the open cockpit and enjoy sectacular views as your pilot puts the plane through a series of exciting manoeuvres (subject to weather conditions and at the pilot's discretion). You'll also have the opportunity to take the controls yourself and discover the sensation that has made generations of flyers fall in love with these lively little planes. Even with little or no flying experience, you can take to the skies and join in this ultimate air race. Kick off with a thorough briefing and a practise flight, where you learn to fly the cutting edge Extra 300 race plane (as used in the Red Bull Air Race event) including tight corners. Enjoy a snack lunch with your pilot and talk tactics as you prepare for the big race. Start by diving down to low levels at speeds in excess of 200mph, select 'smoke on' and storm across the start. Then pass through a series of simulated gates at high speed either with wings exactly level, or at 90 degrees - in 'knife-edge' flight! Your experience begins with a flight and safety briefing from your ex-military instructor before you get kitted out in a flying suit. Then you'll take to the air in the Bulldog, sitting side by side with your instructor during a thrilling aerobatic flight demonstration. Next you'll take the controls of the plane yourself to complete a series of navigational tasks, finding a set of targets whilst maintaining your heading and speed. At each target you'll circle once to get the info you need to complete your mission. Depending on how well you do, your instructor might give you some additional tasks at short notice. |  Introduction To Gliding
Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It's a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the peace. This experience is a perfect introduction to gliding, giving you the chance to really get to grips with it. You'll start with a briefing session before climbing aboard your dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. Then the glider is towed into the air by a light aircraft (okay, this bit is noisy, but you have to get airborne somehow). Once you're at the right height the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you're free to soar and circle lazily in the thermal currents.
