Rally driving occupies a unique place in the motorsport world. It's fast, furious and often seems barely in control. Well, find out for yourself behind the wheel of a rally-prepared Group N two-litre Sierra. Discover the secrets of skid oversteer and understeer on Knockhill's purpose-built off-track rally stage - one of the venues of the RSAC International Scottish Rally. Your experience starts with a briefing on technique and safety, then you'll get one-to-one tuition on how to control the rally car. You'll be marked on your driving skills on a final stage assessment, before a white knuckle high-speed demo run by your instructor as a finale. There's a trophy for the best driver of the day and everyone receives a certificate.
The Ferrari F430 is one of the finest sports cars in the world, and driving it is an intense pleasure. It has a 4.3 litre V8 engine producing 483bhp, combined with astonishing road-holding and manoeuvrability. You'll kick off with a briefing, then your instructor will drive you for three laps in a Mazda 3 MPS to familiarise you with the driving lines of the circuit. Next you'll swap over to the driving seat for four laps in a Porsche Cayman. Then at last you'll slip behind the wheel of the all-aluminium F430 for four mind-blowing laps. Be warned, this car is capable of 0-60 mph in under four seconds and has a top speed of almost 200mph; it's not for the faint-hearted. You'll finish driving five laps in a Formula Renault single-seater - sitting two inches off the ground, with lightning-quick steering and braking, this little dynamo of a car gives a totally different ride to the Ferrari.
Once you've driven a Ferrari, no other car comes close. Experience the phenomenal acceleration, braking and handling of Maranello's breathtaking beauties. You'll kick off with a briefing and then your instructor will drive you on some training laps in a hot hatch so that you can learn the racing lines and see circuit driving techniques in action. What you do next depends on the venue: At Donington Park or Three Sisters Circuit you drive seven miles in a Ferrari 360 followed by three miles in a hot hatch and finish with ten miles in a single-seater racing car (23 miles in total). At Prestwold Hall you drive four laps each in a Ferrari 550 and F360 Spider (16.2 miles). At Thruxton you drive three laps in a Porsche Cayman, four laps in a Ferrari 355 plus five laps in a single-seater (28.8 miles). And at Rockingham you'll drive an F360 for six miles on track and then a single-seater for a further 20 minutes. Finish with a high-speed passenger ride at some venues.
With race commentators and trophies to be won, this is real racing in fantastic 1300cc saloon stock cars. After a briefing on safety and driving techniques, you'll drive for four practice laps and two racing heats of eight laps each. Based on the points scored in the heats, each driver will then be streamed into a championship final for ten electrifying laps against drivers of a similar ability. The winners of the four finals line up for eight laps in the Showdown Shootout race to find the ultimate champion. Conclude with a trophy presentation for the best drivers of the day. The adrenaline is pumped up throughout with commentary over the PA system, race marshals, fans and a great atmosphere.
