Tandem Skydiving - Parachute Jump with DVD
Jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet might be considered utter madness. But if close friends start wondering aloud about your sanity (or the contents of your will), you can reassure them that you'll be attached (literally) to an expert instructor and that, frankly, you're in for an experience so exhilarating that you'll probably never going to stop talking about it. It begins with around an hour of instruction, before you go up in the plane. You'll be securely harnessed to your instructor, who will help you jump from the plane (or at least help you fall with style). You'll get about 30 seconds of freefall, which is so completely incredible there's no point in us trying to describe it. Then your instructor will open the parachute and control your descent while you admire the view and try to come to terms with the adrenaline rush. Back on firm ground, you'll take home a photo and DVD of your flight.
More Information... | Air Race Tuesday
Even with little or no flying experience, you can take to the skies and join in this ultimate air race. Kick off with a thorough briefing and a practise flight, where you learn to fly the cutting edge Extra 300 race plane (as used in the Red Bull Air Race event) including tight corners. Enjoy a snack lunch with your pilot and talk tactics as you prepare for the big race. Start by diving down to low levels at speeds in excess of 200mph, select 'smoke on' and storm across the start. Then pass through a series of simulated gates at high speed either with wings exactly level, or at 90 degrees - in 'knife-edge' flight! No matter what your previous experience, YOU will fly the aeroplane, with an experienced aerobatic and ex-military instructor with you to make sure that it is safe. Once all the competitors have taken their individual turns, it's fingernail biting time as you await the results. Have you been the fastest of the day? A results certificate signed by your pilot is yours to keep.
More Information... | Exclusive Hot Air Balloon Flight for Two
Have you ever looked up to see a hot air balloon drifting silently overhead? With this experience it'll be you in the basket of the balloon, looking down. First you'll meet your pilot and get a flight safety briefing, before helping to prepare and inflate the balloon. Then you'll climb into the basket - just you two and your pilot - ready for launching. You'll fly at heights of up to 5,000 feet, enjoying 360 degree beautiful views as the countryside awakes, and the restful peace and quiet (except for when the propane burners are going, that is). Because the balloon moves with the wind, you'll feel no wind at all, just sheer enjoyment. After landing you can help the crew pack the balloon away, before a celebratory glass of champagne (or a soft drink). Then you'll be driven back to the launch site. You'll be presented with a commemorative flight certificate, and some centres also offer the chance to purchase an in-flight photo.
More Information... | Biplane Sightseeing Tour of Cambridge for Four
These days air travel can be a nightmare of queues, checks and delays - and modern passenger jets are so vast that it's easy to forget you're in the air at all. Recreate the thrill of early air travel with a flight in one of Britain's best loved pre-war aircraft, the De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane. Taking off from the Imperial War Museum Duxford, you'll fly north to Cambridge, enjoying magnificent views from 1,500 feet. You'll see the glorious spires and quads of Cambridge University, the meandering River Cam, Newmarket Racecourse, the stunning Gothic architecture of Ely Cathedral and the open country of the Fens. Back on terra firma, you'll get free entry into the Imperial War Museum (and half price entry for any guests) - it's Europe's premier aviation museum, spread over 85 acres and housing classic planes like Spitfires, a B17 and the prototype Concorde.
