Introduction to Snowboarding

Introduction to Snowboarding

Let's be honest: nobody wants to hit the slopes for the first time looking like a complete novice, even if they are one. So get some practice in before going on holiday with a snowboarding lesson at SnowDome, the UK's top indoor real snow centre. You'll start off with a safety briefing and an introduction to all the equipment (which is all included). Then you'll try out some basic moves and find out whether you're a 'regular foot' or 'goofy foot' - that is, whether your leading leg is your left or your right. You'll get to grips with the right stance for balance, and then move on to gaining control of the toe edge and heel edge of the board and going down the slope zigzagging from left to right and back again - the 'falling leaf' manoeuvre. Your qualified instructor will be on hand throughout, to give you loads of help and to pick you up when you topple over.

Tandem Skydiving - Parachute Jump for TwoTandem Skydiving - Parachute Jump for Two

Throwing yourself out of a plane at 10,000 feet might be considered utter madness. But if close friends start wondering aloud about your sanity (or the contents of your will), you can reassure them that you'll be attached (literally) to an expert instructor and that, frankly, you're in for an experience so exhilarating that you'll probably never stop talking about it. It begins with around an hour of instruction on skydiving and landing techniques, before you go up in the plane. You'll be securely harnessed to your instructor, who will help you jump from the plane (or at least help you fall with style). You'll get about 30 seconds of freefall, which is so completely incredible there's no point in us trying to describe it. Then your instructor will open the parachute and control your descent while you admire the view and try to come to terms with the adrenaline rush. Mind blowing.

Canyoning for EightCanyoning for Eight

Rediscover your sense of adventure - and what it's like to be soaked to the skin! Canyoning is a truly all-round adventure experience, following a natural water course through a precipitous canyon. To start off with you'll have a safety briefing with your instructor and get kitted out with the right equipment. Then after a short walk to the top of the beautiful Allt' a Bhealaich Gorge, you'll follow the natural water course down through the gorge, descending waterfalls, sliding down natural water flumes, scrambling down gorges and jumping into deep, clear rock pools. In some sections you'll use harnesses and ropes to get down, all safely controlled by your instructor. This is a challenging, exciting and very physical experience and you might get a few bumps along the way, but there's a path running along the length of the canyon, so no part of the descent is compulsory - you can always take the path instead.
