Polo: a game that involves hitting a small ball with a long stick whilst travelling at speed on board a vehicle with a mind of its own. Sound insane? It's time to find out for yourself, even if you're not a royal or a snake-hipped Argentinian. And even if you don't know how to ride. You'll start off being briefed on the basic rules and theory of polo by expert instructors, including ball hitting, polo riding, hooking and riding off (don't worry, all the terminology will be explained). Then you'll mount a mechanical horse to learn the basic polo swings. Next you'll mount a polo pony (a real one this time) to improve your skills and take part in a 'stick and ball' session. After a buffet lunch there's a video on game tactics, more stick and ball sessions and finally, instructional chukkas so you can put all your new skills into practice. Fast-paced and skilful, polo is an exciting, challenging sport (even without an HRH).

You'll start off being briefed on the basic rules and theory of polo by expert instructors. Then you'll have lots of time to practice ball hitting, polo riding, hooking and riding off (don't worry, all the terminology will be explained). The polo ponies are well-schooled and there will be an instructor by your side. After your training you'll change into proper polo gear and mount your horse, and then it's time to put what you've learnt into practice as you both play an instructional chukka. After, you can stay and watch matches being played for the rest of the day. Fast-paced, skilful and with the fantastic sound effect of thundering hooves, polo is a great sport to play and to watch.

Let's be honest: golf is not an easy sport to master. There is nothing terribly intuitive about hitting a tiny ball with a long stick. So even experienced players can sometimes benefit from a bit of coaching. With this experience at a Marriott Hotel and Country Club you'll get just that - plus the opportunity to play 18 holes on a superb course. You'll start off by having an assessment of your game from one of the golf professionals, followed by an intensive lesson. Depending on numbers on the day, this will either be an hour-long lesson in a small group, or a 30 minute one-to-one lesson. After this chance to brush up on your technique, you're free to enjoy a round of golf. Each country club has a championship course, and many have hosted prestigious tournaments. Some clubs have two golf courses, you will play the resort's course or the championship course (depending on availability). For the next three months you'll be able to use the email golf helpline service (maximum six emails).
